English, Journalism and EDL Teacher Arcata High School Northern Humboldt Union High School District Arcata, California

Danielle earned her Bachelor of Arts with Highest Honors in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and Single Subject Credential from San Francisco State University, which included English Language Development Certification.

Danielle began her teaching career teaching English at Florin High School in Sacramento, California before moving to Arcata, California where she has been teaching at Arcata High School for the past ten years. Danielle has taught English Language Development classes, Reading Strategies, English I Intervention and AP Language and Competition. Early in her tenure at Arcata High School she took over what was then an after-school journalism class that had only five students who worked to produce a very small school newspaper. She was able to reinstate the Journalism class into the regular curriculum and now has 35 students producing seven issues per year, each with a minimum of 34 pages.

Danielle’s classroom success led to her being selected to implement a district wide, student-centered, instructional coaching model, where she develops and facilitates district wide professional development programs related to transitioning curriculum and instruction to the Common Core State Standards.

Most recently, Danielle was selected to receive the Humboldt County Office of Education Excellence in Teaching Award. She has also received the UC Davis Chancellor’s Award of Merit for leadership and scholarship integrity, the John W. and Ernestine L. Heinrich Award for Excellence in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science and the Charles P. Linderman Award for community leadership and commitment to participatory democracy.
